Today’s postcard is a reminder of the joy that comes from cutting flowers for bouquets. Note that you don’t have to have a dedicated cutting garden…you can grow flowers for bouquets along with your shrubs and vegetables.

Grow some Zinnias for yourself, or to give away to others.

Another reason to grow flowers for cutting: Give Away Bouquets. Before you leave the house to run errands, pick a small bunch of flowers, tie them with a twine or small bit of ribbon, and hand them to a total stranger. Give them to the supermarket checkout clerk, the bank teller, or the person cleaning the ladies’ room. You have the power to brighten someone’s day with a random-act-of-flowers. #giveawaybouquet #randomactofflowers #sharejoy
Today on The GardenLady on WCAI we’re celebrating flowers for cutting. At the start of the program I’ll be speaking to Teresa Speight, author of Black Flora, about this beautiful and inspiring book.
I’ll also be speaking to Krishana Collins, owner of Tea Lane Farm on Martha’s Vineyard. Hear about the pleasures and challenges of being a flower farmer in the Northeast.
