The postcard this week is about fixing broken terracotta pots instead of throwing them away.
In Italy it’s common practice to repair broken containers by drilling holes and using wire or a combination of wire and cement or other patching compound to make terracotta pots useful into the future. I have also fixed pots with waxed cord, such as the type used for lashing bamboo.
I find that these repaired containers are somehow more beautiful.
Here is a Meyer Lemon that I grew for several years. It went out on the deck in the summer and indoors for the winter.

This Italian garden contained lemon trees that were put out for the summer but brought into a greenhouse for the winter. This garden was in Poreta, a small hillside town in Umbria.
Should you be unable to fix your terracotta pots, they can also be repurposed into garden edging.
