I Love Dicentra spectabilis ‘Gold Heart’ aka golden leaf bleeding heart

May 14, 2021 | Love This!

Name:  Dicentra spectabilis ‘Gold Heart’ aka golden leaf bleeding heart

Type of Plant:  A perennial for part shade that’s hardy in zones 3-9.

Why I Love/Hate this plant: The golden foliage is brilliant in the spring, and the string of hanging, heart-shaped flowers are icing on the cake. Pink blooms, small size, and early brilliant foliage color makes this the perfect plant to include in shade gardens.

A Word to the Wise: Sometimes this plant goes dormant in a dry season or hot summer.

The old-fashioned bleeding heart flowers are typical for Dicentra spectabilis, and are set off by the gold foliage.

Plant these with other shade plants that have green or purple foliage for good contrast.

This perennial is in flower for a month or more in the spring.

What’s not to love about this plant?
