Malus x ‘Snowdrift’ aka Snowdrift Crabapple

May 13, 2022 | Love This!

Name:   Malus x ‘Snowdrift’  aka Snowdrift Crabapple

Type of Plant:  A small tree (up to 20 feet) that’s hardy in Zone 4-8.

Why I Love This Plant: This crabapple has pink buds that open into white flowers. The blooming process is fun to watch over three to five weeks depending on the spring temperature.

I love that this crabapple is also resistant to the many diseases that apples in my region get, including cedar/apple rust.

A Word to the Wise:  Plant any apple or crabapple in full sun where it has the room to grow tall and wide that the plant’s genetics are prompting it to grow.

Snowdrift crabapple produces a cloud of white flowers in the spring/

Although the buds are pink, the flowers on Snowdrift crabapples open pure white.

If you have a place to plant these where the view beyond is serene, do so1 Otherwise, place them where they are in full or part sun, and in locations where the evening sun can highlight the flowers.
