If your petunias aren’t looking as flower-filled and bushy as they did early in the summer, you can trim them back by 1/3 to 1/2 (sometimes more!), water them well and then give them a dose of a synthetic fertilizer. (Organic fertilizers take too long at this time of the summer…this is the time to use fast food.)

Some of these containers have petunias in them and they were beautiful into early August.
My guest on The Garden Lady on August 8th was Kerry Michaels, author of Art From the Garden. This book will inspire you to get creative with what you are growing or other materials from the natural world. This is a great book for parents or grandparents who are always on the lookout for projects that keep kids busy, creative, and away from screens. It’s also good for garden and plant loving adults, because these projects are soothing and life-affirming…and we need all of that we can get these days.
