Name: Monarda didyma ‘Jacob Cline’ aka Jacob Cline bee balm
Type of Plant: Native perennial that was discovered in a Georgia garden.
Why I Love This Plant: This is one of the most mildew resistant Monarda varieties. The tall stems are sturdy and the flowers are bright red. I love how this plant attracts hummingbirds and other pollinators, and how the bunnies don’t usually bother it. I also appreciate the flowers for making mid-summer bouquets.
A Word to the Wise: Grow this Monarda in full to part sun.

This garden has the red bee balm paired with a Hydrangea arborescens.

Monarda Jacob Cline can grow quite tall. It looks at home on the edge of woodland as well as in cutting gardens and perennial gardens.
